Thompson named NLL ‘Air Canada Wingman’

The National Lacrosse League has announced Georgia Swarm rookie forward Lyle Thompson as the "Air Canada Wingman of the Week" award winner for Week 5 of the 2016 NLL season.

Thompson recorded a combined 13 points (3+10) in the Swarm's East road sweep weekend including 10 points (2+8) in Georgia's 20-17 win over the Toronto Rock on Friday while adding three points (1+2) in the team's 13-9 road win over the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday to earn the weekly award.

Thompson's 10 points against Toronto tied for the most by an NLL player in a game this season while his eight assists were second-most by an NLL pro so far in 2016. Thompson ranks second in scoring among all NLL rookies, behind only teammate Randy Staats, and ranks tied for 18th overall in the league with 18 points (6+12), which is fifth-most among Swarm players, in five games this season.

The 23-year-old from the Onondaga Nation, who played collegiately at University at Albany, was drafted by the Swarm with the first overall selection of the 2015 NLL Draft. Thompson finished as the NCAA's all-time leading scorer with 400 career points and became the first back-to-back male recipient of the prestigious Tewaaraton Trophy (Lacrosse Player of the Year) in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Air Canada is the Official Airline Partner for the NLL. Each week, an NLL player will receive the "Air Canada Wingman of the Week" award based on their performance on the turf with respect to passing prowess and playmaking abilities. The weekly award winners will be entered into the pool of finalists for the "Air Canada Wingman of the Year" award at the end of the season.

Week 2) Kiel Matisz – Georgia Swarm
