Swarm signs remainder of 2017 Draft Class

The Swarm's top draft pick, Zed Williams (No. 4 overall), has agreed to a 2-year deal

(DULUTH, Ga.) – The Georgia Swarm today announced that it has signed Zed Williams (No. 4 overall), Mason Jones (No. 32 overall), and Isaiah Davis-Allen (No. 50 overall) to two-year contracts. The Swarm also signed free agent Courtney Fleming to a one-year deal.

With these last signings, Georgia has locked in every draftee the team selected from the 2017 NLL Draft.

“We’re excited to have signed the last three members of our 2017 Draft class,” Swarm head coach Ed Comeau said. “Now we can look forward to arguably the most competitive training camp in franchise history this November.”

Williams was Georgia’s first pick in the 2017 NLL Draft, going No. 4 overall. The Irving, N.Y., native played middie and attack during his time at the University of Virginia, but he will focus on being a defense/transition player for the Swarm. During his time with the Cavaliers, Williams was named All-American (HM) by both USILA and Inside Lacrosse. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 185-pounds, the right-hander finished his collegiate career with 131 points (75G, 56A) while posting a .268 SPCT, scooping up 162 ground balls and causing 27 turnovers.

“What Zed can bring to the Swarm in terms of tangibles and intangibles has us ready to see him in action, and we’re hoping to see good things from Mason as he enters some stiff competition for a goaltender spot,” Comeau said.

Georgia selected Jones in the third round of the Draft, their second pick in the round and No. 32 overall. A member of the Seneca War Chiefs (Jr B), Jones will help increase the competition for the backup goaltender position. Jones is a big goalie who plays angles smartly. In the 2017 Founders Cup, Jones finished the tournament with a 4-1 record, making 181 saves and posting an 8.20 GAA and .815 SV%.

Davis-Allen, picked by Georgia in the fifth round at No. 50 overall, is a right-handed defense/transition player. He played for the University of Maryland and captained the Terps his last two years. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 180-pounds, Davis-Allen received a numerous amount of accolades his senior year, including First Team All-American from USILA and Inside Lacrosse.

The Swarm signed free agent Fleming to a one-year contract to compete for a roster spot at the training camp. Fleming played at Mercy College and is listed at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds.
