Georgia Swarm Host Calgary Roughnecks in Edmonton for NLL UnBOXED Matchup

DULUTH, GA (January 15, 2026) — The Georgia Swarm will serve as the home team this weekend as part of the National Lacrosse League’s NLL UnBOXED series, hosting the Calgary Roughnecks in a special neutral-site matchup in Edmonton, Alberta. The UnBOXED series highlights professional box lacrosse in unique markets and environments, and this contest marks the second UnBOXED game in league history following the inaugural matchup in Montreal. Edmonton, a city with deep lacrosse roots and a passionate fan base, provides a fitting backdrop for this marquee rivalry.

Swarm owner and general manager John Arlotta emphasized the significance of the event and Georgia’s role in the UnBOXED series. He noted that the organization is honored to represent the league as the home team and to bring a Swarm home game to Edmonton as a way to grow the sport and celebrate the roots of lacrosse in a meaningful setting.

Georgia enters the matchup looking to rebound after a hard-fought 7–5 loss to the Colorado Mammoth at Gas South Arena. Despite the result, the Swarm continued to show growth, particularly on the defensive end, as one of the youngest rosters in the NLL continues to build chemistry and confidence early in the season.

Defense has been the foundation of Georgia’s identity, led by goaltender Brett Dobson, who currently leads the league with a 6.71 goals-against average and an 86.9% save percentage. Dobson has been supported by a long, physical defensive unit that has consistently limited high-danger scoring opportunities and set the tone in transition.

Rookie defender Michael Grace has quickly emerged as an impact player on the back end, using his length, speed, and lacrosse IQ to disrupt passing lanes, create turnovers, and confidently push the ball up the floor. Veteran forward Shayne Jackson praised Grace’s awareness and purpose, noting that his ability to read the game has allowed him to contribute immediately at the professional level.

While the Swarm defense has led the way, the offense continues to search for greater consistency. Georgia has generated quality scoring chances but is still working to convert those opportunities at a higher rate. Jackson emphasized that ball movement and constant motion are critical, adding that the Swarm are at their best when players trust their looks and avoid passing up good shots.

Calgary presents a physical challenge on both ends of the floor, known for its size and toughness. For Georgia, success will depend on matching that physicality, maintaining pace, and wearing down the Roughnecks through disciplined defensive play and continuous offensive movement.

With one of the youngest rosters in the league, Georgia’s blend of emerging talent and veteran leadership continues to shape the team’s future. Jackson highlighted the group’s selfless culture and energy, noting that there are no egos in the locker room and that the Swarm are building toward something special as the season progresses.
