Georgia Swarm Breaks 6-Game Streak with Home Opener Win Against Mammoth

DULUTH, GA (December 13, 2023)   In a historic win, the Georgia Swarm (1-0) broke a six-game losing streak against the Colorado Mammoth (0-1) during their home opener at Gas South Arena on Saturday, December 9. This marks the first victory over the Mammoth since 2017.

Despite Colorado making the initial mark in the season-opening game, Brendan Bomberry responded swiftly with a crease dive goal of his own. The Swarm then took control with three consecutive goals from Lyle Thompson, Shayne Jackson, and Andrew Kew.

Jeremy Thompson capped off the first quarter with his lone face off goal of the night, securing a 5-3 advantage for the Swarm. In the second quarter, Colorado struck first again, but Bomberry and Lyle Thompson responded promptly with back-to-back goals. In the final five minutes of the quarter, the Swarm embarked on a 3-0 scoring spree, with Lyle Thompson adding another goal, along with two from Brady Kearnan, resulting in a 10-5 lead at halftime.

The third quarter saw limited scoring, with each team netting one goal. Seth Oakes contributed his first goal of the night for the Swarm, maintaining a solid 11-6 lead going into the final quarter.

Lyle Thompson wasted no time, scoring his fourth goal just 19 seconds into the fourth quarter. Although Colorado responded with two consecutive goals, Oakes completed his hat trick with two goals, joined by additional scores from Bomberry and Jackson, securing a decisive 16-10 victory for the Swarm.

In the final minute of play, a heated altercation erupted between the teams. The highly anticipated rematch is scheduled for later this month, taking place in Colorado on December 22.

Leading in assists with 6, Andrew Kew played a pivotal role, while Brett Dobson made 39 saves during Saturday’s game.

The Swarm is now gearing up for its first road game of the season against the Vancouver Warriors on December 16 at Rogers Arena at 10:00 p.m (EST).
