Education and Training

Dr. Griffith attended the University of Georgia where he earned an undergraduate degree in biochemistry and molecular biology, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude with highest honors from the University of Georgia honors program. He then attended the Medical College of Georgia for medical school, earning an election into the national medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha.

Dr. Griffith completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he served as an administrative chief resident and was honored for consistently scoring in the 99th percentile on his orthopedic in-training examination. Following residency, he was awarded a sports medicine and shoulder fellowship at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery/Cornell University in New York City, New York, working with Drs. Russell Warren, David Altchek, Riley Williams, Scott Rodeo, Robert Marx, Stephen O’Brien, Edward Craig, Frank Cordasco, Answorth Allen, and Josh and David Dines. During this fellowship he worked as a team physician for the New York Mets, including all major and minor league affiliate teams, and the Brooklyn Cyclones. Dr. Griffith also assisted in the care of multiple professional and collegiate athletes from around the country.

Dr. Griffith utilizes minimally invasive and innovative arthroscopic techniques to treat common shoulder, knee and elbow problems such as rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability (labral tears and dislocations), anterior cruciate ligament tears, meniscal tears and distal biceps tears. His special interests include: arthroscopic and open reconstruction of complex shoulder, knee, and elbow sports injuries, total shoulder replacement, partial and total knee replacement, and fracture care. He also performs revision surgical cases.

He has authored multiple book chapters and research publications and has lectured on the local, regional, and national level on topics including: revision anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, the biomechanical stabilizing properties of the medial collateral ligament of the knee, revision reverse total shoulder replacement with glenoid bone deficiency, 3D imaging for surgical planning, robotic and computer-assisted surgery, and the “docking technique” for ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction, pioneered by Dr. David Altchek, a fellowship mentor of Dr. Griffith. He recently had an article published in the nation’s premier orthopedic journal, the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (JBJS). Titled “Glenoid Bone-Grafting in Revision to a Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty,” Dr. Griffith wrote this article during his time at the Mayo Clinic. He also serves as a scientific reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine.
