Swarm signs Cattoni to three-year contract

Swarm acquired Cattoni in trade with Calgary at 2018 NLL Entry Draft

The Georgia Swarm today announced that it has signed forward Holden Cattoni to a three-year deal. Georgia acquired Cattoni and the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NLL Entry Draft in a trade which sent Jesse King and the No. 23 overall pick in the 2018 Entry Draft to the Calgary Roughnecks. Georgia used that pick to select Syracuse University alum Brendan Bomberry for its first pick in the 2018 Entry Draft.

“We’re really excited to have Holden join the Swarm,” Swarm Owner and General Manager John Arlotta said. “In just two years, he has established himself as a high-end goal-scorer in the NLL. I’m excited to see him in Swarm colors, and we believe he will fit in seamlessly with our offense.”

“It’s the start of a new partnership with the Swarm and me,” Cattoni said about his new contract. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the Swarm. I can’t say enough about John Arlotta and the rest of the organization so far and how welcoming they’ve been. I feel comfortable, and I can’t believe how first class the organization is.”

Cattoni, 24, was selected No. 5 overall in the 2016 NLL Entry Draft by Calgary. He took on a larger role with the Roughnecks in his sophomore season, increasing his points production by 50 points. Cattoni is known for his dangerous shot, creativity, and ability to create space for teammates, common traits in Georgia’s offensive weaponry.

“They’re fast and skilled, very creative, not a lot of set pieces that go into the offense,” Cattoni said about the Swarm O. “It’s driven off of the guys and their creativity and what they see and react to on the floor. I think that’s a system I play really well in and am excited to be a part of it. I know a few guys on the team already, and I think I’m going to fit in very well with the Swarm.”

Listed at 5-foot-11 and 216 pounds, Cattoni finished the 2017-18 season with 76 points (36G, 40A) and 51 loose balls. In two postseason games last season, the DeWinton, Alberta native posted 11 points (2G, 9A) and eight loose balls.

In his two-year NLL career, Cattoni has tallied 102 points (43G, 59A) and 77 loose balls through 33 regular season games.

“From my conversations with (Swarm head coach) Ed (Comeau) and with John, they’re itching to get back to the championship form that they had two years ago,” Cattoni concluded. “They said that Training Camp is a big part of that; I couldn’t agree more. I think we’re looking forward to that and getting everyone back together – for me, getting to get in to meet my new teammates and gel with them as quickly as possible.”

Cattoni graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2016. In three seasons with the Blue Jays, the lefty played in 59 games and finished his collegiate career with 96 points (78G, 18A).

During the summer, Cattoni plays in the Major Series Lacrosse with the Peterborough Lakers (Senior A) on offense. He helped the team win the Mann Cup in 2017 and 2018. Over his three seasons with the Lakers, Cattoni has recorded 163 points (93G, 70A) in 42 regular season games. In 41 postseason games, Cattoni has 105 points (53G, 52A).
