(August 22, 2016) – The Georgia Swarm today announced that the team has re-signed goaltender Brodie MacDonald to a one-year deal and defenseman Reid Acton for two seasons.
MacDonald, 26, appeared in a team-high 823:49 minutes of action last season, while posting a 6-7 record, 12.82 GAA and .749 SV%. During the month of April, the 6-foot-8, 245-pounder collected three wins as the Swarm made a late season push for the playoffs. In the regular season finale against Vancouver on April 30, MacDonald held the Stealth to six goals as the Swarm clinched a playoff berth in front of their home crowd. Georgia acquired the Vernon, British Columbia native in a trade with the Rush in summer of 2014.
“Brodie made great strides on the floor last season and we’re excited to have him return to the Swarm family for a third season,” Swarm Owner and General Manager John Arlotta said. “Brodie is a great example of what we look for in a Swarm player as he is a class act on and off the floor. We know he’s committed to helping this team reach our next goal of winning a championship.”
Acton, 27, made his NLL debut with the Swarm in 2016 and collected five loose balls in eight contests during his rookie campaign. Georgia drafted the former Loyola University standout with the No. 21 overall pick (third round) of the 2013 NLL Draft. With his 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame, Acton was a welcomed addition to the Swarm’s backend last season.
“We were very high on Reid when we selected him in the draft a few years ago,” Arlotta said. “He brought a great deal of toughness and grit to our lineup last season, and we’re looking forward to seeing him progress in a Swarm uniform for many years to come.”
