Georgia Welcomes Back John Ranagan in Trade Deal with Philadelphia

DULUTH, Ga. (February 23, 2023) – The Georgia Swarm traded their fourth-round selection in the 2023 NLL Entry Draft to the Philadelphia Wings in exchange for John Ranagan. Georgia is eager to welcome back the lefty defender as he suited up in Swarm threads for three seasons (2017-2019).

“It’s great to welcome John Ranagan back to the Swarm organization,” said Owner and General Manager John Arlotta. “He was one of our key defensive players when we won the 2017 Champions Cup, and we’re excited to get his veteran presence back in the lineup.”

During the 2017 championship season, Ranagan recorded nine points (5G, 4A), 56 loose balls, and nine forced turnovers. During the playoff run, he collected 10 loose balls while dishing out one assist, aiding the team to win the Cup.

The 2019 Teammate of the Year won that honor here in Georgia before being picked up by the New York Riptide in the 2019 NLL Expansion Draft. Before the start of the 2020 season, the Riptide traded Ranagan to the Wings where he has been playing ever since.

The Yorktown N.Y. native played four games with the Wings this season, totaling three points (1G, 2A), eight loose balls, three caused turnovers, and two blocked shots. The defender has come up on transition taking four shots on goal for a 100-shot on goal percentage and a 25-shooting percentage.

You can watch Rangan reunite with the Swarm this Saturday night at 7:00 P.M. ET in Gas South Arena. The squad are wearing brand new, one-of-a-kind School Spirit Night jerseys which honor local schools and lacrosse programs.
