DULUTH, GA – September 26, 2023 – The Georgia Swarm are back as they prepare to embark on their eighth season in metro Atlanta. The 2023-24 regular season features an 18-game schedule that includes nine home games to be played at Harrah’s Cherokee Casinos Field at Gas South Arena.
The Swarm’s much-awaited season kicks off with their home opener on Saturday, December 9th, 2023, as they take on the Colorado Mammoth at Gas South Arena at 7:30 pm ET.
“We’re thrilled to welcome our fans back to Gas South Arena on December 9th,” said Andy Arlotta, Co-Owner and President. “Last season was an exciting one for our fanbase, and we look to continue that momentum by focusing on the gameday experience and entertainment inside Sting City.”
The Swarm’s regular season spans 18 games, commencing on December 9th and concluding on April 19th. This season the National Lacrosse League (NLL) is introducing a single table, “Unified Standings” featuring all 15 teams. This is considered the most significant and impactful change to the league’s scheduling format and ensures that every fan base across the league’s cities has the chance to witness each team and player in action at their home arena at least once every other season.
After the Swarm’s home opener versus the Mammoth, they embarked on a three-game road trip. They will face formidable opponents on that trip, including matches against the Vancouver Warriors on December 16th, the Colorado Mammoth on December 22nd, and the Buffalo Bandits on December 29th. The Swarm will return to their home turf after the turn of the year on January 6th to host Panther City.
After finishing the 2022-23 season with an 8-10 record, the Swarm are primed for a return. Despite starting last season with an 0-7 record, the Swarm rallied midseason with six straight wins and won eight of their final eleven games. The Swarm’s season ended with a 17-11 loss against the Halifax Thunderbirds which eliminated them from playoff contention.
Looking ahead to the 2023-24 season, Head Coach Ed Comeau expressed his vision for the team. “Let’s make people uncomfortable when they play us because we play with so much speed,” said Coach Comeau. With a roster of young and talented athletes who excel in all aspects of the game, the Swarm are poised to bring an exciting brand of lacrosse to Gas South Arena.
The Swarm boasts a formidable offensive trio comprising Lyle Thompson, Andrew Kew, and Shayne Jackson, all of whom have a chance to deliver 100-plus points in the upcoming season. Coach Comeau is focused on creating an electrifying atmosphere in Gas South Arena, fostering unity and camaraderie among players and fans alike.
The Swarm’s regular season games will culminate on April 19, 2024. The “NLL March to May” playoff format will feature the regular season #1 seed vs. #8; #2 vs. #7; #3 vs. #6; and #4 vs. #5 in the Quarterfinals, with a “bracket” style advance through to the NLL Finals. The Quarterfinal round will be single elimination. The Semi-finals and Finals will continue to be best-of-three series. The monthly schedule breakdown is as follows: December (1 Home, 3 Away = 4 Total); January (2 Home, 2 Away = 4 Total); February (1 Home, 3 Away = 4 Total); March (3 Home, 1 Away = 4 Total); April (2 Home = 2 Total).
