Each year, the Georgia Swarm introduces a Special Edition Native Heritage Night Jersey, exclusively designed by our star forward Lyle Thompson. The unique jersey pays homage to Native culture, blending traditional elements with modern design to create a meaningful representation of heritage and pride. Worn during our annual Native Heritage Night, it stands as a symbol of the rich history and cultural significance of lacrosse, a sport with deep Native American roots.
This jersey is more than just a uniform—it’s a celebration of Native Heritage and the stories that shape it. The sleeves depict the Wings versus the Animals, with the Bat symbol at the center representing unity and harmony between the different forces. The cuffs are a tribute to the wampum, featuring intricate beadwork that carries deep meaning in Native culture, traditionally used to honor history, treaties, and storytelling.
At the heart of the jersey stands a large evergreen tree, symbolizing the gathering of Indigenous clans in unity and strength. Every design element—from the patterns to the colors—was carefully chosen to reflect the values of community, resilience, and respect for tradition. This jersey isn’t just worn on the field; it tells a story of heritage, connection, and pride that transcends the game.
Rooted in Native lacrosse tradition, the Animals vs. Wings story represents a symbolic battle between two powerful forces of nature. The Animals, grounded on the land, embody strength, resilience, and teamwork, while the Wings, ruling the sky, represent speed, vision, and agility. Neither side is greater than the other — the game is about balance, respect, and competition played in honor of the Creator. When Animals and Wings meet, it’s not just a matchup, it’s a reminder of lacrosse’s sacred origins and the harmony between earth and sky.
