Dive into the hive

Welcome to Dive Into the Hive, a blog that gives you quick updates and insight on what is going on around the Swarm straight from HQ.

Let’s get stinging!

Expansion Draft Day – 7/7/22

Today is the day the Las Vegas Desert Dogs (NLL’s 15th team) creates their roster. The Expansion Draft begins at 5:30 ET with the Swarm’s pick happening at 5:50 PM ET.

You can following along to the Desert Dogs social media channels for live postings of who gets drafted throughout the night.

– Nicole Palombo (Digital Content Producer)

World Games – 7/7/22

The World Games begin today (in Birmingham, AL), and for the first time Men’s Lacrosse is a sport. Ireland conceded their spot to the Iroquois Nation, due in large part to the fact they invented the sport. It’s informative (inclusion in the World Games are the precursor to becoming an official Olympic Sport) and poignant (classy move by Ireland).

– Dan Levak (Vice President of Marketing and Communications)

Events – 6/27/22

Over the last few weeks we have gone to various lacrosse tournaments and events around the Metro-Atlanta area, meeting hundreds of great fans like yourself. When we go to an event…you can’t miss us. You can look for our bright yellow tent or the line that leads to our prize wheel. The prize wheel is something new we added to our event set up this summer. All you have to do is spin it and then you win it. Whatever you land on is the prize we give you FOR FREE. We are giving out t-shirts, posters, cups, bobbleheads, flags, really everything and anything Swarm branded.

If you don’t find our set up just look for Stinger, I am sure he is running around there somewhere. He actually ran a youth lacrosse team on the field and led their stretches a few weeks ago.

Next up we will be at the ATL Classic on Sunday, July 10 at Franklin Gateway (Marietta, GA).

Monitor our social media accounts to find out which events we will be at next!

Expansion Draft Protected Rosters – 6/23/22

It was a sad day as our protected roster list for the upcoming Las Vegas Desert Dogs expansion draft was due.

We were allowed to protect four (4) offensive + seven (7) defensive + one (1) goalie. Although multiple players were left unprotected, only one Georgia Swarm player will be taken in the draft.

Protected List:

Offense: Brendan Bomberry, Shayne Jackson, Ryan Lanchbury, Lyle Thompson

Defense: Bryan Cole, TJ Comizio, Jeff Henrick, Jordan MacIntosh, Kason Tarbell, Chad Tutton, Adam Wiedemann

Goaltender: Craig Wende

The Desert Dogs will select one player from each of the 14 franchises unprotected list on July 7th. No team will lose more than one player.

Cherokee Clinics – 6/20/22

Welcome to the first Dive Into the Hive blog post! Today I would like to tell you about the Cherokee Clinics we just came back from. Last week from Monday June 13 – Wednesday June 15 we were up in Cherokee, NC putting on lacrosse clinics with Thompson Brothers Lacrosse. For the last six years the Georgia Swarm and TBL have traveled Cherokee to teach the game of lacrosse, its difference from stickball, as well as spread the love and knowledge of the game.

Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Resort as well as the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) play a major role in setting up these clinics and finding participants. Some of the fields we played on were just breath taking. We played on wide open fields with a beautiful North Carolina mountainscapes in the background. There is nothing better than playing and teaching the game you love with some beautiful views.

On top of playing and teaching lacrosse, TBL and the Swarm had the opportunity to play disk golf with Chief Richard Sneed, the 28th Chief of EBCI. The Thompsons (Brothers: Jeremy, Hianna & Lyle; Father: Jerome Thompson Sr.), Chief Sneed and Swarm staffers (Mike Garrison, Gwen Jones, John Urzua, and myself) played nine holes of disk golf luckily coming out with no injuries as some heads were almost taken off in some attempts.

(Lyle Thompson, Hianna Thompson, Jeremy Thompson, Jerome Thompson Sr., & Chief Sneed)

It was a couple of days filled with the teaching of lacrosse, collaborating on how to grow the sport in Cherokee, allowing children to experience the game for the first time, as well as some outdoors activities and laughs.

We did not promote the clinics on our website or social channels because we like to keep this program private for the people who live and around Cherokee. They do so much for us, we like to give back to them.

For a former lacrosse player like myself, this trip was incredible. I got to document and help teach the game I love with the most iconic lacrosse family. Never in my widest dreams did I ever think I would get to do that in my life… but I did.
