Ritzer is in his ninth season with the Swarm and is the Senior Director of Business Operations. Matt is heavily involved in all business aspects of the organization. He takes great pride in working with fans, partners, and sponsors, and he is committed to providing high-quality service to all. Matt oversees the sales, marketing, and game operations staff to ensure that the overall fan experience is the best in the metro Atlanta area.
He started his tenure with the Swarm in December 2010 while the team was in Minnesota. Ritzer began as an Account Executive and was promoted to Senior Account Executive following the 2011 season. He then spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons as the Manager of Ticket Sales, before being promoted to Director of Ticket Sales prior to the 2014 season. Following the 2014 season Ritzer took on the title of Director of Business Operations and has held that role during the team’s relocation and launch in the Georgia market.
The organization set team records at its inaugural home game in Georgia on January 9, 2016. Over 9,000 fans attended the first-ever Swarm home game at Infinite Energy Arena, and numerous ticket sales records were achieved that game. Those records include overall ticket revenue for a single game and most group tickets sold for a single game.
During the 2018 season Ritzer and the ticket sales team witnessed unprecedented growth over the previous season. Increases were seen in the following categories: season tickets (112%), group tickets (8%), individual tickets (125%), and revenue (48%).
Prior to joining the Minnesota Swarm, Ritzer spent eight years with the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods League, an elite summer collegiate baseball league consisting of the top college players in the nation. Ritzer served as the Woodchucks’ Assistant General Manager starting in 2007 and was heavily involved with sales, marketing, community relations, and operations. Some of his main focuses included selling sponsorships and servicing those accounts, managing the concessions operation and staff, and directing the intern and part-time employee staff.
Ritzer, a native of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse where he earned his Master of Science in Exercise & Sport Science – Sport Administration. He also holds a minor in Business Administration and a concentration in Coaching Competitive Athletics. Ritzer spent nine years coaching high school basketball and volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Twin Cities for two years. He is also a graduate of Leadership Saint Paul (2014).
