Rob Strikwerda is in his first season with the Georgia Swarm as the team’s Ticket Sales Manager. He brings with him over 20 years of professional sports experience leading his team in sales initiatives and objectives.
He began his career in direct sales with the San Diego Padres Single A franchise, which led to an internship in the Los Angeles Clippers Communications department. Rob was instrumental in the team’s 1996 draft, helping the team secure their second round draft pick. His efforts earned him a promotion to Communications Assistant working directly for the VP of Communications.
With a goal to get back into sales, Rob was promoted to Account Executive, selling full menu while the team played in the Los Angeles Sports Arena, which included a series in Anaheim. The 1998-99 NBA lockout provided an opportunity to sell full menu for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team moved into STAPLES Center, and an opportunity arose to expand his role into operations by transitioning season ticket holders into the new arena. During the following seasons, Rob built the largest book of business in the organization, leading the team in renewals while expanding his game and arena operations roles.
In 2009, Rob was promoted to Senior Account Executive. He ran the internship and ball boy programs, arena operations department and led game operations by booking anthems and halftimes for the team. In 2011, he added Arena Operations Coordinator to his title and became the building representative for the LA Clippers at STAPLES Center. Rob was chosen by the NBA to run Arena Operations for the NBA All-Star game in Los Angeles that same season. Over the next three seasons, Rob earned NBA awards for retention by leading the sales department in total revenue for the NBA’s two-time sales team of the year.
The Los Angeles Clippers ownership change in 2014-15 provided an opportunity to relocate to Atlanta, Ga. with his wife Laura, where he worked for Van Wagner Sports & Entertainment selling premium assets for the Atlanta Braves in their inaugural season at SunTrust Park.
Rob earned his B.S. in Sport Marketing at Indiana University, along with his B.S. in Business Management at the University of Phoenix. He has recently taken classes at SCAD to improve his digital design application skills. Rob is a Dekalb county CERT first responder, CPR and First Aid certified, and passionate about developing talent and mentoring youth. Rob and Laura, his wife of ten years, reside in Brookhaven.
